lonely tree... it could have grown anywhere, but was unlucky and grew on the isolated ledge. colours are fantastic for the mood.
excellent, top marks.

Beautiful place and mood!

For a stronger composition anywhere but the middle for the tree would be better imo.

Also cutting the sky and the land in half is maybe not ideal for the composition.

Suggestion is to put the tree through cropping in a low left corner and crop from left and bottom a chunk... ;)

Thanks, but if you put the tree not in the middle it will be lost by the huge rocks, that's why I chose for this composition, pushing the tree aside would only weaken the whole composition and the feel. Why? Because the main subject is pretty fragile compared to the rocks, it needs the attention in the middle, otherwise it will get overruled . I know that you always have these photo mags explaining rules of third, putting things offcenter and whatever but it's a guideline and not a holy grail. We can discuss compositions for ages but it's somehow a personal thing I'm afraid. Just like with the road image, you say crop, I say the corner should be with the flowers, it's just the way you look at it I guess =]. I don't mind suggestions btw, but I won't crop too much to change a whole composition, I think you should actually snap your picture close to the composition you want, but that's just me.

A nice shot !! Good use of all those glasses !! :)
Lights & exposure are good too !!
Kinda agree about the centered composition working here ..
But also feel somehow this could be improved.
Would love to see someone come up with a suggestion to make it even stronger...

I think there is balance between the sky and the rocks.
I tried in my photoshop to crop it, using thirds grinds and divine proportion shapes to make the composition using this guidelines and nothing gets stronger than the tree in the middle.
I dont think this needs any composition adjustment to make it stronger, it IS strong already.

Very cool shot +10

Of course all are just guidelines but an opinion is also personal.
I can comment and suggest a constructive critic which you in turn can either like or dislike, agree with or disagree with.

I just say what I see and how I feel when looking at it.

At least I myself have learned more from those at gfx who have given me constructive critics instead of all that ass licking type of comments... :p
(which of course are nice to receive too )

PS. I agree that a composition should be planned in beforehand and not cropped out in aftermath of the actual shot. ;)

some say composition rules are ment to be bent ;)
love the compo, even though it's centered. The colors are beautifully weird.

I too think the comp might benefit from being a little more off-center, vertically--I think the horizontal centering works well here. Perhaps shooting an inch higher (speaking in relative units to the photo above) might have produced a stronger composition--or not :)
Still, an awesome photo; great mood; excellent colours!

only one element might be better in my opinion
the clouds : the dark top part is a bit boring compared to the rest :)

Very nice nature shot that carries a lot of mood.

I had either cropped something off the bottom or the top to get the tree into the 1/3 or 2/3 position to create more suspense.
But that's my personal taste.

Very nice. no critique, the composition works well for me, a good example of when central / balanced focus is appropriate.
